Recovered Loomis rod

A Loomis GLX rod and a Shimano Core reel was recently fished from the waters off the Louisiana coast. It has probably been submerged about 6 months as best I can guess. The reel is “toast”. The rod and guides are in great looking condition after removing the coral deposits. Does anyone have an opinion about the integrity of the graphite blank should I rebuild on it? Thanks for your thoughts.

The blank will be fine. I rebuilt a rod I dredged up from St Joe Bay, FL. It was fine.

Just double check the grip. Often a rod can be submerged for years with the blank and guides just fine. But, depending on the composition of the grip - it is often gone with long term submersion, especially in the ocean due to the creatures that lurk in the depth.

Thanks to both for your input. The grips are swiss cheese. I have already removed the seat and grips and am readying the blank for new ones.

Hope it's a vintage raw carbon blank of the 90's - that would be a great find. Less of a find if the "modern" painted GLX.
What weight is it?

The rod specs are worn off. It’s a 7’ casting rod. Probably a 10-17# M/F rod. Not sure about it’s age but the finish is a clear coat green that looks transparent in the sunlight. I would guess it’s an older one.

If this were my find, I would strip off the guides and finish and polish the graphite and rebuild it with current components. A wonderful blank that will be even better with some of todays guides.

I wish I knew the model number. The specs and data are no longer visible. I’m guessing it was located between the butt and rear split grip. The only visible markings are Loomis GLX. There is a very small GK printed on the label but I’m guessing that is a quality control mark. Other than what I mention, there is nothing else to go by. It is a really nice inshore rod though. I don’t see many small diameter blanks such as this one anymore.
