After almost 4 months i received my winston 4wt.microspey blank.What i am wondering if any body knows the length of the foregrip. I do not think it is the size of a switch rod which is about 10.5-11inches.

I want the foregrip to be the same length as their factory rod.

Rod length ft. to in. +1 inch is what I see a lot. Rear grip 40% of rod length in ft. to inches. For instance a 12 ft. rod would have a 4.8 inch rear grip.

Why not ask the MFG they want your to buy blanks an will work with you as I remember

Roger, Robert is unfamiliar with what usually works well for that type of rod and is asking for guidance on what could be considered "recommended" foregrip length. So "do what you want to do" doesn't help Robert. I have a friend who wanted me to make him a spey rod and I told him I wasn't qualified to do justice to a great blank, so told him I could recommend a good builder who could. Sounds like Spencer is a good source of guidance.

The fore grip length is similar a switch rod. The fore grip needs to to be long enough to have the upper hand placed far enough away from the lower to provide the pivot point on the Spey cast. If the hands are too close together, you will not get the proper casting stroke. The lower grip only needs to be large enough to allow for a good grip. Size of hands can make a difference.
