New builder seeking help

I am new to rod building and am looking for some guidance for what type of lathe to get, as well as where I should go for all the supplies. I live in San Diego and only plan on using the machine for making saltwater rods and jig sticks, if that changes anything. If anyone has some secondhand gear I could purchase off them I would be open to that. I appreciate any help thank you !!

You might check out the San Diego rodbuilders classes as well, lots of really good builders sharing stuff. A ton of good guys down your way.

You should also unhide your email address. There are plenty of sources that don't sponsor here that you may be interested in.

The Renzetti is universally approve and the Custom Power Wrap from Angler's Resources just unveiled some new motor and dryer upgrades for that machine at the recent Expo. Beyond these two, the nice wrapping machines from American Tackle, Batson Enterprises/ALPS and Pacific Bay are best sellers and used by legions of serious rod builders.

The only thing I would say is that regardless of make you will greatly benefit from a power wrapper. Being generally larger in diameter and with longer guides, trying to wrap such rods by hand turning is a tedious process.

Yes the Renzetti is a great lathe. I have a Clemens lathe which is a Renzetti and I’ve had it for 35 years. I just turned a reelseat on it yesterday.

Grant is right. Hit the San Diego rodbuilders class on Tuesday night's. They won't steer you wrong. There is a tackle store on Barnett Ave. off of Midway Drive that carries some wrappers,or used to anyway.
