Hi All,
First, we wanted to mention we still have inventory of St. Croix blanks, with our next (and last) shipment coming in 7-10 days. We will let you all know when that arrives. You can see our St. Croix inventory here: [www.mudhole.com] Second, we went through the hundreds of St. Croix blank part numbers (SC1 through SCV) and matched them up best we could with either a CRB or MHX blank. Now, we all realize that when comparing blanks nothing is an "exact" match between vendors - but our goal was to provide an alternative for those who liked a particular St. Croix model - and wanted to find a suitable replacement. [www.mudhole.com] To that end, we have published the following reference sheet: [www.mudhole.com] If you do not see a model, or have any questions finding a replacement, please feel free to contact one of our customer service reps at 407-447-7637. We'd be happy to help. Thanks in advance and have a great week! Regards. Isn't St. Croix making rods anymore? I didn't know. Geez, that a favorite of mine. Re: St. Croix to MHX/CRB part #s

Bruce,
Vertical integration. St. Croix wants all of the profit from making the blank to selling the finished rod. Many companies are doing the same thing. After G Loomis was purchased by Shimano, they also stopped selling blanks only. Re: St. Croix to MHX/CRB part #s

Roger, it is not quite as simple as that.
Think about it this way, St. Croix starts out making completed rods, their entire organization is focused on that market, as is the production and distribution processes. Sometime later they decide to enter a new market, the custom rod building. Now this requires organization changes, for example different marketing and sales approach to develop distributors, plus advertising to the new distinctly different market. None of this is done without additional costs. Now the two markets are vastly different in size, with the finished rod market being much larger. So the question comes down to, is the custom market sustainable on it's own or is it being subsidized by the larger market? It can become a pure and simple financial business decision! St. Croix and Axiom (Rodgeeks) are in partnership. At some point it makes little sense to maintain two separate manufacturing, marketing and sales departments to sell virtually the same product. One can do it more efficiently and at less cost.
