Question -are there problems with putting another layer of a thread epoxy like Flexcoat over an older layer done a few years back?
I was looking at an older 3 wt that I did and, looking at it from today's perspective, thought that I'd do another coat if I were presently working on it. So curious when I have some epoxy mixed for another project if its a bad idea to run out another coat. David Re: re- epoxy old threadwork

Fish-eyes (FE's) are always a possibility.
And - if you rough-up the surface to eliminate FE's- and you hit the thread - thread fuzzies are always a possibility. That risk is minimal if you originally applied a lot of (too much) finish. Which you will add to with another coat. If you decide to go for it - if you are not happy with outcome - just rip it out and re wrap ad finish. Herb Re: re- epoxy old threadwork

Additionally, if it is best if there is no loss of adhesion of the old coat. Epoxy will not run under a loose edge, so if it has loosened, carefully take it off. Thumbnails work well.
Once you have a solid base a coat or two should make it look pretty good. I have done a few and never had fish eyes. It should go without saying that you want to clean any contaminants off the old surface. Re: re- epoxy old threadwork

If the current wraps and epoxy coat are in good shape, clean them with DNA then scuff with a fine 3M pad then apply a new thin coat. Shold be OK Re: re- epoxy old threadwork

David,
Now that a few years have gone by, why don't you strip off the guides and rewrap with some new colors and fresh finish. I have done this with many rods over the years. It is always fun to give the rod a fresh look. You might also take the time to put on one of todays new type guides as well. Good luck Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
