Looking for some clarification on where to put the stripping guide on my 9' 8 weight. I've currently got it 36" from the end of the reel seat (not the end of the fighting butt), which is 76" from the tip top. Is that good? I can reach it just fine with my non casting hand.
ETA: The guide in question is a Fuji KW 16, and the reel will have a 4.25" arbor. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 03/28/2019 09:18PM by Seth Johnson. Re: 9' 8 weight stripper guide placement

the fighting butt is just that has nothing to do with casting just the fore grip and the placement you have for the stripper is correct the fighting but gives you a bit more leverage on a large fish The best day to be alive is always tomorrow !! Think out side the box when all else fails !!! Wi. Re: 9' 8 weight stripper guide placement

32 inches from the end of the reel seat (not including any fighting butt) is about perfect for any rod weight or length.

Your ability to reach the line after a cast should not be a criterion for where to place the stripper.
You should rarely - if ever - have that much slack in the line. But if you do - you can simply move your casting hand to the rear to reach the line hanging from the stripper. Placement should be your preference based on path-of travel, line wrap, etc. Is the line sitting in a stripping basket, boat deck, beach, etc?
