Hi guys , first time poster. I've been looking on here for a while to get tips and tricks. Today I'm looking for a pretty particular application. I have someone looking for me to build a crappie dipping rod, he wants it to be around 12 foot and medium-light action. The only things I'm finding are "steelhead" blanks and are expensive... any suggestions for a cheaper blank? Re: Dipping rod

I've ben using a 12-20# rated 12" salmon factory rod for dipping crappies and it works great. Try an Anglers Roost 12 1/2" 9 wt IM6 blank. They run about $40. You can also get a 12 or 13' 9 wt spey blank on the internet at a bargain, which should work real well. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 03/10/2019 08:01AM by Robert Nypaver. Re: Dipping rod

Angler's Roost is not currently accepting orders. The owner passed away last December. Re: Dipping rod

Thank u guys, another question, I've never done anything with fly rods so rod "weight" is French to me. Is there a clear comparison to "power"? Re: Dipping rod

I'm not sure either however if you want to play around with a long "fly rod" to see if it is a better solution for you or not, go on the popular @#$%& site and look for either a "switch" or "spey" rod blank. Something in the 7 - 9 wt range, 11 - 12' long. You will be able to find something for $50. The problem with these blanks might be lifting power since they are designed to fight fish from land not a boat. An 8 or 9wt rod can easily hand fish in the 20 - 30lb range but I'm not sure how there are at lifting a 2 or 3 lb fish straight out of the water. I suspect they are fine. Re: Dipping rod
