I searched unsuccessfully for a chart comparing the weight of line guides of the same size. Is there a comparison chart of guide weights by make and model or is this a case of what feel best is best?

It would be a expensive comparison test program considering you'd have to have quite a few guides of each type to get an accurate, repeatable, measurement on the light stuff.

Although the language may be unfamiliar to some of you and the weights are in grams, here you are: [jerkbait.pl]

You can get an approximation by categorizing the guides into 3 groups.

Group 1 guides with very thick ceramic rings.

Group 2 guides with very thin ceramic rings

Group 3 guides without ceramic rings

Each group should give an idea of the general weights and how they compare with each other.

This should be a good starting point to make your selection

If you settle on a particular group then at that point pick the guide that is most appealing to you.

No , there is no chart that shows guides from each manufacturer which allows you to compare the weights , the frames and ring materials need to be weighed as a whole and the only thing you will find is a few manufacturers that list their own specific offerings showing the weights of their own product . Some manufacturers don't list overall weights at all , they just expect anglers to take their word that they're lightweight and better than other manufacturers offerings .

Believe it or not some anglers do actually take their word for it. So as Phil said it all comes down to feelings and how well you click with certain guides, is it the type of guide you're typically attracted to and if so what are the chances of developing an intimate relationship where you can trust that guide to perform up to it's potential . Nobody wants to be stuck with a lousy performing guide .

These are all important questions

Life's too short to agonize over the difference between Fuji's and Alps's or AmTakls or PacBay's single foot titanium alloy guides of the same size ring in the sizes that count the most, the runners. Since the reduction guides don't matter as much, life's too short to agonize over the differences there, too. Just my opinion. Not trying to offend.

Looks like the feelings have it. I resolve not to recommend my feelings to other rod builders. It seems the decent thing to do.
