Amazing how a single response can sway some peoples opinions on something and thats unfortunate . While i respect everyones opinions don't forget there are more lovers of Winn Grips than the people who dislike them by far and i personally have not experienced any of what the person has said happened to him and his customers.
That being said i also know it's limitations and don't treat it like a grip that should last multiple years , it's an "Out of this world" grip and well worth the $9.99 after a season or two to replace it because there's nothing on the planet that will make you fall in love with a rod faster than equipping it with Winn Grips for the handle. It's really that good. People spend more on gas, live bait , a 12 pack of beer or a few packs of cig's than you will need to spend on a new overwrap to quickly replace the grip and i can assure you that new grip will be a lot more satisfying than all the others put together & will last 10 X as long to boot. My all time favorite grips are shown in the photo library and nothing has even come close to being good enough to replace those UNTIL i decided to try Winn Grips . As they say, to each their own but do yourself a favor and try out things for yourself especially when the cost amounts to less than a six back of quality imported lager . A large majority of my favorite products are things that others said don't waste your time with , no joke. Re: Winn grips... Someone sell me on them, im unsure...

I have not written off winn grips, in fact i am getting some overwrap with my next supply order, i think i mentioned that a few post ago, i simply really do appreciate eveyones extremely opinionated responses.. I never new there was such controversy about them.. Well now i want a beer... Lol Re: Winn grips... Someone sell me on them, im unsure...

Interesting thread, that's for sure lol
As far as the sensitivity afforded by different grip materials goes ...... it only matters if you actually hold the grip. Other than the very heel of one of my hands (which hand depends on the type of gear I am using) I do not touch a grip while I actually fish a bait. I hold the reel and reel seat on casting rods, and the reel seat alone, on spinning rods. Of course my hands do come in contact with the grips while casting, but how sensitive one grip may be over another means nothing during a cast. As far as grip materials go, so far I've used EVA or foam core carbon fiber sleeved grips on all the rods I've built, and I don't see that changing in the near future. Re: Winn grips... The wear on Winn and the like golf grips is from taking them in and out of the golf bag, not from ones hands! Leather golf grips have the same issue, but not as pronounced. The polymer surface of the Winn grip is subject to frequent scuffing, so is not appropriate for rod holders or any other type of surface abuse.
They have their place, it's not on every rod! On fly rods where sensitivity to the hand is not a factor, they work very well. Re: Winn grips... Someone sell me on them, im unsure...

Ah.. So scuffing causes them to break down faster.... That makes alot of sence.... Curb your tire enough times and the side wall will blow out before your tread wears...
Then again.. Rocks, pricker bushs.. Zippers.... Truck rides from one creek to the next... These all would scuff the grips a decent amout... Still, im going to try them out.. I expected this thread to be waaay more one sided to be honest.. Re: Winn grips... Someone sell me on them, im unsure...

As always, different likes and dislikes. The only way for you to to know for sure is to try one.

Im all for experimentation as well.. Can you imagine where we would be without trying new things? Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
