Heat Shrink

Hi everyone from down under
I have been on this forum for a while now but this is the first time I have posted.
My question is do you think if putting say 2 or 3 layers of the heat shrink grip approx 12 to 14 inches above the reel seat would have any effect on the action of a slow tapered rod.
The blank in question is a Snyderglas CR126 4wrap hollow glass.
We use them over here for whiting fishing with bait.
The three layers is just to get the grip the same thickness as the reel seat.

well imho that is a lot of heat to apply the wrap and could affect the blank.
I would do a wrap with some cord like a guide wrap and coat it with some thinner finish and then apply the shrink wrap over that and you achieve what you want

Think out side the box when all else fails !!!

Hi Mathew and thanks for the advice.
I was just wondering if by putting that much of it on the butt section would it stiffen the blank a bit. The heat shrink seems to be a lot harder than the eva grips.

The answer is yes . any thing you but on a blank will effect it , saying that will you be able to tell ?? only you can tell , it depends on how light your feel is . an when you are fishing with line , BAIT OR TACKLE
on a boat that is bouncing a little , who knows what you can feel , I don't know the answer , that is what I think

Hello Brett.

You Say "Slow Taper" but is the rod a slow Action?

Putting that much "Heat Shrink" on the rod above the reel seat is going to change mostly the weight, action, & power.

If it is a fast action, the action wont be changed as much as if it were a slow action, but it will still change.

The power should go up no matter what.

The weight will go up.

Good Luck
