I just finished redoing an 80’s ugly stik. I shortened it from 7’ to 6’6” and relocated the guides. Then I sanded out the spots where the old guides where then put Permanent Gloss urethanedthe on the whole rod. I painted where the old guides were like original. Let it dry then installed the guides. Put a coat of Flex Coat High Build. Everything looked good but I decided to put an aluminum clamp on light near it to keep the area warm. It must have been to close because it caused the paint to bleed through the thread just on the guide closest to the lamp. The other guides look fine .Good thing I went back after an hour to check. Because it’s an old cheap rod I can live with it. Just wondering if anyone has had this happen to them? I guess the heat somehow pulled the paint

I've had this problem twice, although my situations did not involve a heat source and both include a restored Ugly Stik. My first was a old surf rod that I stripped and painted. I under wrapped the guides and finished as normal. The paint bled through the underwrap threads and looked horrible. I took note and used CP beneath my underwrap on my second build. I was in a hurry that day and missed putting the CP down. It became apparent when the rod was finished and the paint bled through the threads on only one guide. Guess which one? Yup, the guide I bypassed in my haste.
