On stand up rods which is a preferred guide up to 80 lb class...I have used HB Fuji single foot then there is RB triple foot. I know there are others brands maybe better, however I can't make those decisions without some feedback. I'm curios what the reverse stripper guide function is and who has used it? A captain friend of mine told me on his sword fish rods he uses fishes ringed guides no rollers why is that? It would seemed to me that a really good guide is necessary to handle braided line and large sword from 1500 ft or am I overthinking it?

It was beyond the 50lb class rating that I moved to roller guides. Only downside is that they must be maintained and cleaned on a regular basis.

Some charter boat captains may find it less taxing to just go with ring guides on everything. Nothing to maintain, really, other than watching out for cracked or missing ceramic rings.

I like to use rollers for faster fish (Large King, Tuna, Who, Sail, Marlin, Big Barracuda, Big Shark) in the 50# and up, but the smaller (50#) will usually only be the roller tip, while the 80#+ will be the full set.

For the slower fish (Bottom Fish) in the 50-80# range I just use ring guides.

You really need to know what you are hunting for and what is usually caught in the area you will be fishing.

But if you get lucky you might hook that 1200# Marlin on your 50# king rod, so just smile and wave bye-bye, maybe get a picture as he spools you.
