Attaching carbon fiber directly to blank

Has anyone attached carbon fiber directly to the blank? I'm thinking about doing that instead of a decorative wrap. My question is what kind of epoxy to use. Has anyone tried using Prokote or something similar? Thanks, Dan

Daniel,
Yours is not a structural but rather a cosmetic application of woven CF sleeving so the results using thread epoxy will be fine. Consider using the thinnest viscosity possible to aid wetting-out the fabric easily and thoroughly. Additionally, thread finish has UV filters which are obviously a good thing. While PG is very thin and may wet-out fabric quickly, it may go-off too fast; hence I have never tried it. I have used composite sleeves for under-wraps and the thin ProKote worked very well. I just built an 80lb stand-up rod and used woven CF/Kevlar sleeving for the butt grip as my rendition of a Slick Butt. Since I anticipate, and hope, it will be subjected to abuse in and out of rod holders, I used laminating epoxy to wet-out and bond the sleeve to the blank but over-coated with four coats of PG for resistance to the salt water elements and UV.

Just curious, what type of carbon fiber are you talking about? Like the carbon fiber you would buy to build your own grips by wrapping over hard foam?

Bob, you might want to start a new thread addressing Mark with your questions.

Bob, I'm using the same carbon fiber, 1k, as the grips just in a smaller diameter.
