fenwick feralite

What type of material is feralite I tried to heat tip and pull it of and the blank crushed and splintered ? Re: fenwick feralite

Mathew is exactly right. The tip top was probably glued in place using epoxy.

The resin used in the glass lay-up won't tolerate much heat beyond about 250F, which is easily exceeded by the temp of even a cigarette lighter flame.
I suspect it was hot melt type glue, but you applied more heat and for longer than needed. .......... Re: fenwick feralite

Sounds more like epoxy than hot melt type glue to me , hot melt type glue specifically designed for tip tops will allow you to slide the top off with very little chance of overheating the tip area. Then again Tom thinks differently so i'm probably incorrect lol. Re: fenwick feralite

I think it was epoxy because I never got it off after the heat and a lot of pulling I cooled it down with water and was filing the side down to split it and saw that it was broken at the end of the tips tube .thanks for the help as I have two more of these rods to rebuild Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
