I posted this thread on another forum but they refer me to this site. I need some help and pointers.
I want to try and build a spinning fishing rod and having questions regarding Fuji's Concept KR guide spacing. The rod blank is 8.6 feet long. Using KR GPS calculator [anglersresource.net] and enter the following: 1) Enter the total length in inches of your rod blank :102' 2) Distance from the rod butt to the tip of the spool axle spinning reel: 14" 3) Size reel is 3000 (drop box did not have 2500 size): 3000 4) Choose conventional rod with braided line 20-30 lbs The calculator gave my build as follow: YOUR BUILD SHEET: Stripper Position beyond spool axle tip: 20" Stripper to Second Reduction Guide: 11.58" Second Reducer to Third Reduction Guide: 10.12" Third Reducer to Choke Guide: 6.86" Total Reduction Train Length: 28.56" Choke Point Position beyond Spool Axle Tip: 48.56" And then I've found a chart, [merricktackle.com] which tell a different guide spacing. Stripper Position from reel seat stem: 31.4" Guide #2 which measure from Stripper ring base: 9.8" Guide #3 which measure from Guide #2 ring base: 7.4" My question is specifically regarding the "Stripper" guide (1st guide). The GPS calculator gave me 20" distance from reel spool axle but the chart says 31.4" from reel seat stem. I am still confuse and I know there may be variations from the reel spool axle and reel seat stem but it can't be over 11" different. Can somebody help explain please. Which (GPS or chart) is correct? Both correct? Both wrong? Re: Fuji Concept Kr guide spacing

I would follow the FUJI KR spacing. It's a quick choke and I was had clients rave about how well the rod casts with the recommendations from FUJI. Don Campbell don@sensorfishingrods.com Re: Fuji Concept Kr guide spacing

Forget about using the Merrick guide Chart, that way you won’t get confused. The chart does not take into account the reel size or the type of line being used, it also assumes a given handle length. The KR GPS gives you a very good starting point. There is a lot of flexibility in setting up a KR concept guide train, especially when using braid. I have experimented with both the Merrick guide chart and the KR GPS, and the KR GPS does a better job. Pushing the stripper further out creates more line slap as the line is coming of the reel, ie. the line coils get bigger the further away the stripper is located. Putting the Stripper closer allows for better line control, and more efficient choking to the running guides. Both will work but my experiences indicate that the GPS does a better job. Hope this helps.

I think Merrick Tackle was out of business before the KR concept came about.
