NEW POINT Blank - CPB761HM (Flippin)
Posted by: Jim Ising (---.dyn.centurytel.net)

We are happy to introduce a new POINT Blank designed a little differently than past models. We designed this blank primarily for Flippin' but it has wide applications for many other techniques and species (bull reds come to mind immediately). Most POINT Blanks are fast to extra fast...this is a MODERATE blank, bending well into the butt section for horsing big fish. Prototypes of this blank are "pulling 5lb bass out of thick mats and over the top of 3ft tall buckbrush". It's powerful. In fact, it's almost 200g more powerful (IP) than the current 7'6" Heavy POINT Blank. We have also added a little toughness to the recipe specifically for the Flippin crew - but that also added a whisker of weight. It still has the power to weight ratio to keep it a "POINT Blank" and allow you to flip all day. These blanks just arrived, if you have questions please call so we can answer them and get one started your way. 1-251-943-4491 or send me an email at jising@anglersresource.net. Here are a couple of (sideways dang it) photos of the bend and angle: [www.rodbuilding.org] [www.rodbuilding.org]

Jim,
What did you use to attach the weight to the tip? Is it a type of surgical tubing?

I like your slant rule for measuring AA. How does it work and where can you get one? I have a tough time getting a good AA. The stupid print out protractor I have tried to use just doesn’t give me an accurate reading. Also, how do you stabilize the rods butt?

Norm, I asked our factory to send me one when I saw it in a photo from them. The brand is visible in the photo I posted. I think it was KD. The blank holder I got from Lynn Williams. He had a company called Backlash Tools (I think) and made some of the most innovative rod building products I've seen. I don't think he does it anymore or at least doesn't publicize it. The blank holder is very cool, using a pivoting cam, grooved wheel front and back it can level ANY taper perfectly along the measuring board. And, it holds two blanks for direct comparison. Wall mounted and built for 2 lifetimes. I've lost track of him the past couple of years, maybe he will chime in or someone knows what he's up to.

For me accurately measuring the Action Angle is difficult, I will check into trying to get one of those slant rules. Based on personal experience I know that the secret to getting good Intrinsic power numbers is to make sure the butt section of blanks is securely locked down so there is no tilting or pivoting when weight is applied to the tip. Always looking for a better method of doing this. I hope people going to the Expo will stop by Anglers Resource and wiggle some blanks. Looking forward to seeing you there.
