I have a few blanks that are matt in finish however when I wrapped them they turned shiny at the guides . Is it possible to make the rest of the rod shiny with perma gloss or Cpx ? What would be the process ? As always TIA .

I don't know of any matt tread finish.
If you cover the threads well so you don't abrade the thread- I would recommend that you get a pac of 3M Micron Polishing paper.
Santa Fe Jewelers Supply carries it.
It goes from 400 grit to 8,000 grit and it is in soft paper/cloth configuration. It is not sand paper.
To dull the finish I would use the 4,000 grit so you don't get deep grooves.
Certainly don't use ScotchBrite of any texture. Do not use wet or dry of any grit either. I have tried 2500 grit in wet or dry and it's too coarse and will leave marks

Yes, Permagloss will give the entire blank a nice gloss but it's best to do BEFORE the guides are wrapped .



Easy enough to do with the guides already wrapped though , many use a lint free coffee filter , just dip and wipe the blank between the guides it dries super fast . Prepare the blank sections first though .


I would honestly just leave everything the way it is , the guide finish is always shiny on matte blanks , never seen a matte blank with a dull looking guide finish .

On some of the older matt blanks from G. Loomis, All Star, and St. Croix, etc. PermaGloss will eat it up. Even alcohol removed it.
So if it's a a paint over the blank test it on the butt where no one can see it. If it's a see through urethane, or buffed bare blank you fine.

Interesting , didn't know that , obviously thats not good . What do you mean by"Eat up" , eat up what exactly ?

What I mean is if you used alcohol to clean up after using epoxy, you'd look at your rag and a bunch of the blank's finish would be on the rag, 2 dozen wipes and you had a bare blank, you'd could turn your GL3 blanks into IMX looking blanks in maybe 5 minutes a piece. Permagloss would probably act just like paint remover and bubble off the finish.

Thank you for the explanation , i was confusing matte blanks with raw unfinished blanks thats why i was confused.
