I'm a newbie so afraid if I can describe my question make sense.
I'm currently building 12'6" 7/8wt spey rod and found the diameter around the bottom end of section 1 (butt section) & 2 is very close. They both have dia.10mm. Although I have less experience, I thought it is common that section 1 has a bigger diameter around the bottom end. Is the design of this blank particular? If so, what is the advantage to make section 1 thinner? For me, it looks strange because ferrule of section 2 is too fat and does not make a smooth transition of taper. Thank you. I just measured my favorite 12' spey rod. Both the butt and second section had a similar OD. I think your observation is normal. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
