Little late on the chime in, but figured i would add my 2 cents here for readers of the future...

To add to the rubber band method, i bend a paper clip and attach it to the tip, then place the rubber band on the clip.. Works as a buffer incase you get to close to the rubber band.. I dont acually use a rubber band though... Im a long hair.. So i use my hair tie lol

On the topic of why do they use this vs. That..

Personally, i dont leave rods in my vehicle.. But alot of people do.. And when you live in a warmer climate, like florida for example.. Using a thermo glue could potentially cause the tip top to roll on the blank.. As stated before, it doesnt take much heat to slip a top off... Ive run into some extremly stubborn tips..

Ive gotten into the habbit of wrapping the thread up onto the tube, and jse thermo glue.. Wrapping up the tube will help with stregth and help Keep it straight if your trunk gets 300° while your at work dying to get oit to the water
