I am wondering if anyone has used Dura Gloss LS over superglue. Here is my situation. I used aluminum winding checks. I read it was best to fit them loose and make up the difference with thread wraps. This I did but the checks were not equal dimensions. The I.D. was slightly smaller on the end butting the handle. If I wrapped the thread thick enough to fill the gap on the other end I could not slide the check tight to the handle. So I wrapped just enough thread to fill the handle side I.D. and epoxied the check in place.

I am left with a gap between the blank and check on the end opposite the handle. What I would like to do is fill this small gap with superglue so I have a nice edge to pack my trim wraps against. I am wondering if come time to finish if there might be some type of interaction between the glue and finish. Yes I cold just use the finish to fill then wrap.Hate to mix a batch of rod finish when I would only need a couple drops. Super glue would be quick and flow well into the small gap. Thanks for any advice.

Rather than to use superglue, I would use epoxy. Use a heat gun, once on the surface to thin it and to let it flow into the area in question. Then, you finish will be fine over the epoxy.

The finish may or may not be fine over the super glue. I do know that from using superglue in the past, that it tends to cure in spots at different times and generally does not leave a smooth surface. But, your experience may be different.

I've ran into this same situation before. Instead of a surface to pack the thread against, start your thread wrap with a little more tension than usual, make 5 or 6 wraps, then pack your wrap slightly between the blank and the check. Return your thread tension to what you usually use, and complete your wrap. Once you apply epoxy over the wrap, you won't see the gap.

Super glue is really not intended to fill gaps. Its designed primarily to bond close fit mating surfaces together. Roger and Paul offer excellent solutions.
