For an eight foot surf rod I was looking to do a shrink wrapped handle.
Does anything need to be wrapped underneath or can I go shrink wrap right to the blank? Re: Surf rod handle

No , nothing needs to be underneath the wrap , i wipe down the bottom of the blank area with isopropoyl alcohol beforehand just to make sure it adheres to the blank as well as possible but thats it . Keep the heat moving as concentrated heat in one area too long has resulted in disasters . Re: Surf rod handle

You do not HAVE to put anything beneath the shrink wrap. I usually use a smaller diameter nylon cord wrapped in a 2-axis diamond pattern underneath, with color preserver to hold it in place. Then I shrink wrap over it. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
