Winding check question

When building a ultrasound light rod with a small diameter butt of say .240 what do you do if you do if you have no foregrip. The rubber or vinyl winding checks I have found are so small diameter size they won't cover a 16mm barrel reel seat. Any suggestions appreciated.

Pac Bay supplies an end cap or plug for the 16 seat. You can punch or bore it to fit the rod blank. Makes a nice winding check from seat to rod blank.

The Fuji WCS ones that Roger has the link to work. You will need the diameter of the blank where it will sit in MM. Like a Size 16 with 10 MM diameter cutout. Sometimes you need to go up a half size but the inner cutout can be slightly reamed. I have also had pretty good luck with the aluminum Alps dimpled winding checks in this area. If you get a loose fit you can put thread down in that area to make it fit more snug.

Most of my rods don't have any winding check , i prefer to use shrink tubing that i shrink down and it covers about 1/4 of the end of the top of the real seat & extends upwards about 6 to 8 inches but i'm an oddball so keep that in mind.

Look at FAWC and FBWC checks. The outside dia matches the open end of the seat. They come in metal and rubber. You can see them in ALPS components at Utmost.

I make a little nub out of EVA that I turn down to the diameter of the thread barrel. It's only about 3/8" thick. I ream it just enough so that it's nice and tight on the blank once it's slid into place. Then I slide a normal type black rubber winding check on to finish it off.

Another thing that I have done is to take a cork ring and turn it down to the inside size of the reel seat. Then, use this turned down piece to be placed at the end of the reel seat inside the reel seat so it ends up being flush with the end of the seat. Then, you can put on a winding check, leave it blank, or put a few wraps at the end of the reel seat to finish off the rod.

Good luck

Steven, I may have misled you, I was thinking of the thread end of the seat or both ends of a threaded barrel.
