I had a tiger wrap sacrificial thread break my cover thread when I was pulling it out, so I decided to add another coat of epoxy and then do the cover and sacrificial threads. When I epoxied over it, I guess the thread I was using left a silicone residue on the surface so the epoxy would not stick in random areas and left the surface bumpy / un-even. There are decals (adhesive back) that were partially covered in this area so I need a way to clean off the residue without harming the decals. Does anyone have a suggestion? The thread I was using is new to me but it is for rod wrapping. I have been using a lot of CP over it so I never had a problem until now.

First, what kind of thread? I would thoroughly clean the bottom layer with DNA, then lightly sand till you get down to the previous coat. Do not sand more than you have to, this is tricky work. You can't get down to the decals. I would then wash the area with clean, hot, soapy dish water and a cloth or toothbrush you didn't use to wash the turkey roaster. Rinse thoroughly with hot water and let dry. You can then give the bottom layer another coat if you wish before wrapping the top layer. I can't grasp how removing the sac thread would break the thread that was intended to remain. Good Luck

If push comes to shove, cut everything off of the wrapped area and do it over again.

Although this will take time to redo, you will be sure that you will have the perfect job when you are done.

I am sure that everyone of us who have wrapped rods more than one or two, have had to cut things off the rod and start over.

Yes Roger I had, I was trying to avoid that but there may not be any way to. I have had this in small areas like over a decal and was able to lightly sand the high areas and re-coat to level, but not with this much area. Lynn I was looking for the soap and water answer but have not ever tried it. I will give it a go and test another decal with DA to see if it messes with it. Thank You.
