Hey guys, im about to restore a vintage ugly stik for a buddy of mine.. Its an SP 1100 heavy 6'6" im having trouble finding a good color match for the red and yellow... I ment to get color fast thread as well.. Screwed that up.. Id like to get prowrap or equivelent... Taxi cab yellow and red fish are not right lol atleast in standard nylon.. The red matchs well after soaking in alcohol, but the yellow is not good either way.. And now i cant return them, as i opened them for testing.. No biggy..just a pain.. Any suggestions on colors?

Anthony, Testors model paint colors red and yellow are an exact match for Ugly Stix. You'll have to use a quil or a pin strip brush to get those fine lines.

When working with bright colors the use of color fast thread or color preservative is necessary. Do your best with the colors then don't look at the two rods together again. The new one will look just fine.

Thats true.. Ive done a few shakespeare microspins for him and didnt have that... Metallic brown-ish color.. I used prothread colorfast 'soot'... I had gotten for a job that required black.. Needless to say the magazine, or computer screen is verry misleading on actual colors.. And the build looks really good.. Matched with gold trim bands.. I left the hook keep original so it can be compaired.. Without that there you wouldnt have really noticed... You make a really good point.. But i will say that theres alot less metallic brown and gold shakespeares out there then red and yellow uglystiks... Im waiting on his response on what he wants to do.. A fellow builder is going to hook me up with some yellow (thanks man) and the red, when soaked in alcohol, is acually spot on.. So i should be good..

Also consider the finish is yellowed and will effect the color.
