Just looking to see if anyone is familiar with the United Composite line of rods here. I was wondering if anyone knew if the Challenger Platinum series would be good for bottom fishing here in the Northeast as well as in Florida. It will be used mainly with lead from 12-20 ounces. Looking for a sensitive tip coupled with a fast action. I usually end up bringing my 7' Shimano Tallus Blue Water rod(s) in Heavy and medium heavy when deep sea fishing up here in the northeast and Florida. Just looking for something new but also can take a bend if a toothy critter shows up and wants to play. Opinions or advice greatly appreciated :)

The blank line you mentioned were originally designed for the Australian market and have a bit more glass in them, faster tips and are incredibly strong. I have 2 of them here on the west coast and have been very happy with them. I see no reason why they wouldn't work great in Florida, lived in Miami for many years, but my experience in the Northeast is limited. I also own some GUSA, all graphite dual helix rods from 20 years or so ago that also are as reliable as a hammer under tremendous strain and still available.
I know there are some nice shops in the Northeast that carry the factory rods and should be able to assist you.

Thank you for the reply Spencer. In your experience do you think a 7' Heavy action would be too stiff for this application, or "just right"?

Have no idea how your using the blank and what for. Mine are lighter Albie rods.
