Hello,
New rod builder, with 6 builds completed. Just received an un-sanded blank from manufacturer and noticed that a small (1/3 inch) length fiber peeled from the very tip top of rod. Should I be worried about this? I am happy to send it back to manufacturer if it puts the blank at risk of failure. If it is no worry could I sand it and move forward with build? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Re: Peeling of fibers at tip top

I always cut off a small section of the tip of a new blank, because one is never sure how the manufacturer terminated the end. I cut off enough to insure the tip is solid and fray free. 1/3 of an inch is not an issue.
The change in performance concern is a non issue. To notice a change in performance, action, power, etc, you would have to build the rod test it then dismantle it cut off the 1/3 inch re assemble it and re test it to determine the difference. Which is highly impractical that being said I suggest you cut the tip to clear the fray and go on build the rod and enjoy it. Have fun John Re: Peeling of fibers at tip top

If the small area that is peeled is going to be completely covered by the length of the tiptop tube, it won't be an issue.
