If you want a threadless reel seat then use a hidden thread hood, like the Fuji KDPS or HPS or SK2 (KSKSS) hidden thread hoods. These hoods will fit almost all size 16 or 17 reel seats. You can use a cork, EVA, cabon fiber, wood, acrylic or almost anything you wish for the sleeve. This sleeve will be your fore grip or rear grip depending whether you want your reel seat up locking or down locking. Both the hoods and the reel seat threads can be trimmed to reduce length, and weight. Thus are very customizable. The Fuji NPS reel seat with a hidden thread hood makes a nice minimalist reel seat. The smooth end of the reel seat behind the fixed hood can serve as a short fore or rear grip, depending if used up or down locking. I personally like using the VSS or IPS seats with hidden hoods. I like the way they feel.

Anthony, For the type of fishing you want to do I would try a fly seat with a cigar grip and a good quality under spin cast reel. You would be able to use micro guides all the way out that would cut down on a lot of weight.
Why use a reel at all, get a TENKARA blank and fish your bait that way.

St.Croix makes a really nice handle on their UL rods. You should look them up on their finished rods, not the handle kits they sell. If you like it, I have one I can send you.
