Just wondering if anyone has any ways to get old wood looking good again. I tried once, but after sanding on my lathe it was still that weather worn wood color of grey. Re: Wood Handle's need help restoring

If it is gray, that is from oxidation the effects the fibers and lignin in the wood. Staining will be the only color solution. Re: Wood Handle's need help restoring

John,
Since you have a lathe, take the handle off of the lathe and use it for a pattern to make a new matching handle out of the wood of your choice. It makes for a nice lathe project and after finishing the handle, finish it nicely and it will remain nice for a very long time. Good luck. p.s. I love those handle's. I probably will put stain on and the finish unless I have to replace the reel seat. I have someone who wants me to redo the whole rod. Just trying to see whats involved to judge if I am going to do it or not. I currently have two wood handle rods, that I made on my lathe, but it is easier from scratch.
