blank section lengths

I see more and more casting and spinning rod blanks seven feet and longer offered only as one-piece models, while top-end fly rod blanks are chiefly 4-piece models. Are the casting/spinning rod blanks offered in one piece mainly to keep the price down? I have seen no evidence that quality 4-piece fly rods suffer any performance loss compared to 1 or 2 piece fly rod blanks, while they greatly improve transportation and convenience.

Many blank manufacturers have made a variety of good quality travel gear blanks/rods, they just don't sell well and disappear out of the catalogs, it's a niche market, few use the rods all the time if a one piece version is available when not traveling.

Phil
RodGeeks offers a limited selection of 4pc spin/cast blanks. I currently am mid-build on a 6'6" 4pc spin rod.

It appears that fly fishermen travel more and further than many who fish the other methods, thus making the shorter travel package convenient, especially for flights. I sometimes carry-on 4 rods in a single tube.

Totally agree that multipiece fly rods suffer no performance degradation.

Take a peek at the Batson Forecast blanks.
The ISB841-3 is an excellent multi-species travel blank.
