Forgot to mention and this may be well known, but made a homemade semiself-centering drying chuck. Take a 1/2" or 3/4" boark and cut a circle approx 4" in diameter. Drill center to fit your motor. Now around the circle put six 1" screws in an equal spacing from each other and center (place about 1/2" in from outer edge of board) Do not sink screws but leave about 1/2" out. Now get six rubberbands of equal size. For butt sections with grips place rubberband from one screw to the opposing one (should have total of three) and place rod in center by stretching rubber band to slide in. If smaller diameter, then either take a rubber band for each screw and start on the screw, wrap around the blank and return to the same screw, or return to the screw next to it. (make sense?) You could have a total of 6 (if going back to same screw) or 3 (if returning to next screw).

I would bet a 4" hole saw in 3/4" plywood would work very well for this. Perfectly round, with the center hole already there...

What I have done is attach a diswasher line adapter to the end of my shaft. (Home Depot, $2.99) This adapter has "steps" in it to adapt to a variety of pipe sizes. The largest diameter stretches nicely around the end of a 1-1/4" grip. The smaller steps will fit most smaller sizes, down to about 5/8". I only use the big one, since I always put on my handles before the guides.
