NFC rod blank suggestions?

Hello,
I've been racking my brain around ordering some north fork blanks during you incredible Black Friday specials. I'm having issue trying to find the right blanks. A lot of the blanks seem to have a lighter line/lure rating than I'm used to for different techniques. I've built a lot of rods on Rainshadow blanks and a few other brands and would love to take a look at NFC because of my love of Loomis GLX rods. The 853 is my absolute favorite rod ever built.

If anyone has suggestions or experiences with some of the rods in looking for listed below or suggestions I would appreciate it. Thanks

1. 1/2 or bigger Jig, creature, heavy cover trig rod (similar to a 894) Bait casting
2. Trig, small jig, swim jigs good all around (Similar to 893) Bait casting
3. MH Reaction rod for square bills etc. Faster than a normal glass blank.
4. 7'2" or longer ML to Med spinning for Neds and other finesse rods
5. 6'10" Drop shot Spinning rod
6. Medium General purpose spinning.

Drop shot make yourself a favor and test DS 721-1 (X-Ray), if you use lighter rig (say below 1/4oz) an de don.t need a lot of power the DS6107-1 is nice too (the Delta version had a little more power) and if you need longer DS 761-1 (HM).

I know the MB 705-1 (HM) little upper rated (usually they are over rated), very very good stick (MB 733-1 X-Ray too, similar but for a little smaller weight, little).

For crank CB-704 (IM).

Just to name a few :-)

I just got in a X Ray SJ 732 rod blank that I probably won’t have time to build until after the holidays. I need to do a CCS measurement to find out how fast and it’s power but it feels quite light and fast action. Should be great for finesse bass.

Also picked up a Delta MB 664 and I like the non sanded blank look and is a good value.

MB705-1 for #2, works great for lighter jigs, worms, srnko, etc. Extraordinary for ripping, jerbaits, spinnerbaits, topwater, etc.
Rod action has no relation to the material used in the blank.

Eric's assessment of the NFC DS6107 (IM) is spot on. Not a lot of power, but light and sensitive, and if you are so inclined, it makes an excellent Ned rig rod.

As far as your medium general purpose spinning rod inquiry goes ... I don't have experience with the blank as of yet, but I will be ordering an MB 705 (HM) this weekend that I will be building as a spinning rod.

An addition, I built a rod on the MB709 (IM) that I use for pitching, flipping, and punching. I absolutely love it. It doubles nicely as a Carolina rig rod as well. Great rod.

1. Hmmb709 or hm flip766 or delta mb708
2. Imsj706 orx Ray sj736
3 no suggestions From Northfork I like rainshadow cb’s or the st croix legend glass
4. X Ray 732
5. Ds6107
6. Mb704

These are just a few they do make some good stuff but ya have to get em in hand as I think their ratings are random at best imo

I wanted to fix a misprint from my earlier post and make a change as well.

The misprint being, I meant I was going to be ordering an (HM) MB704 and not the MB705 to build as a medium power spinning rod.

The change lol .... I went with an X ray MB736 that I will be building as a casting rod. I figure two of my last three builds were spinning rods, and I could use a new casting rod specifically for dragging 3/8 oz football jigs for smallmouths. I'm looking forward to building on one of the X ray blanks, but based on the picture of a portion of the blank on NFC's web site, I'll probably be sanding it.

Thomas, if I may? If you've built on one of the X ray blanks, how noticeable are the ridges from them not being sanded?

When you go on the NFC site, if you select the item your interested in there is much more information on the page for that specific blank, for instance the MB705-1 I mentioned is a redesign of the G Loomis MB843 IMX. If your familiar with Loomis products, you kind of know where their coming from, if not, lots of info on the products on other bass forums. Lots of us have used, or been around a lot of Loomis products, till they quit selling blanks.

Iconic bass rods from G Loomis include all the 7 foot Mag Bass from 2 power to 4 power, however the 3 power 6 ft. 6 in. blank of the line is more popular I believe then the 7 footer.

Thanks Thomas, their site gives me anxiety. The numbers, ratings, actions are all over the place.

Ridges on the X ray blanks are not so noticeable, may be a little more on the butt, you feel them dragging your nails along the blank but they don’t really impact your wrapping (at leasr guide wrap, I build simple and don’t do long decorative butt wrap).

Eric, thank you very much for your reply concerning the ridges on the X ray blanks. I'm looking forward to receiving the blank.

Would have gotten back earlier but I was out deer hunting this morning. The ridges on the x Ray are noticeable but no where near as noticeable as those on the delta series.

Spencer, how do you feel the 705 compares to the IMX? IMO I think the 705 is no where near as powerful as the MB843.

Thanks
Tom

Sounds like the place to be Thomas, and thanks for the response. Just a quick note. Either NFC has things down pretty good now, or I'm just lucky. I got an e mail today saying that my blank shipped today. (11/13) I ordered it on the 10th.

A great big thank you to the folks and North Fork Composites!!!
