Any ideas on why applying a second or third coat of low build Flex Coat epoxy will not cover or adhere to an area; any and all thoughts and ideas are greatly appreciated?

Silicone Contamination

Keep your rod clean, keep your hands clean. Silicone can come from all kinds of places.

I have even talked to several builders on the phone that have their finishing station close to the kitchen. Not a good idea. Cooking oil that is airborne can settle on your rod, thread, or work surface.

Oil or silicone contamination can and will happen with all epoxies causing it to pull away or fisheye.

When you say "will not adhere," what specifically are you seeing? Dry areas? Fisheyes? Something different?

After applying a thin coat a “C” shaped dry area appears while rotating on the dryer.

I doubt it's silicon if you have it in one spot, and a large one at that. How long did you wait between applications? If is possible for a smooth surface to repel additional coats if you wait several weeks in-between. If this is the case, you might clean the wrap with a solvent and then scour with a fine grey Scotchbrite pad, I suspect you'd get full coverage at that point.

These things are often hard to solve without actually seeing the problem. John offered to take a phone call. I'd take him up on it.

The applications were +/- 24 hours apart, the area was small and I did have it appear in two different places. I did give John a call and spoke to an associate because John was unavailable, he agreed with John that it was some type of oil or silicon contamination. Thanks to all for the quick response and help, I certainly appreciate this forum and everyone’s willingness to help!
