CTS Affinity X euro nymphing configuration?
Posted by: Boden Russell (---)

Has anyone tried a CTS Affinity X in a euro nymphing (EN) configuration (2wt - 3wt, 10' - 11')?
If so is it possible to describe the action to other EN sticks on the market (stiffer like Cortland comp, softer more mid-flex like Syndicate, somewhere in between like T&T)?

Thanks

Hi Boden,
I've "wiggled plenty of the 10'0" #3's
I would say it is closer to the T&T. Certainly not soft/mid flex.
Not familiar with the Cortland.
But my gut tells me lighter in the hand.

Email me if you need pricing.

One of the best ten footer (and I tested a lot).
The #3 is more a #3/4.
If it’s for light EN (say single 2.0mm up to 2.8mm bead head Nymph) go for #2, if you want a more versatile stick go for the #3.

Light I need hand and not tip heavy (unlike lot of ten footer).

Thanks for the responses so far.

Any comments as to if the CTS 3wt could also act as a more general purpose rod as well (throw dries/droppers, floating indicator rigs, smaller streamers, etc.)?

I have also been pondering a 3wt with a -1 tip (via CTS custom fly program). If anyone has thoughts on that configuration it's appreciated.

As stated earlier the #3 is versatile, go for it if you want the best of both world.

For me a #1 tip on it would achieve in a very tipy rod, each is own but for me not a good idea

In case anyone else is looking at the Affinity X for euro nymphing, I went with the 2wt 11'.
IMHO this is a top of the line hybrid fly rod that can both euro nymph as well as cast traditional techniques.
For those looking for more sensitivity I'd even consider a 0wt X although I've never tried one.
There's a full review of the rod here in case it helps anyone in the future:
