Rod guides

It seems most of the web sites I visit have rod guides and tiptops labeled as light or medium duty. What is the difference? It seems subjective because light duty to one person may mean something altogether different to another?

About all you can do is figure that the medium duty guides are built a little heavier than the light duty versions.

In the case of wire guides for fly rods, they are different gauge wires, one thinner than the other. In my case I use the light wire on 2 through 4 weight rods and the heavier on 5 weight and up.

Some manufacturers rate their guides by the pound test of the line one intends on using, so that helps.
