Thanks to your help I just finished a rebuild as my first rod wrap and all went well and I am happy with the result. Doing another rebuild on a identical rod but this time not a KR layout but a NGC layout using Fuji LY guides.
Rod is 6'7"
Reels Shimano 2500. Did measure on it and A 89 B 81 C 108. The reel spool diameter is 45mm
Line is 5 /10 lb braid.
I have read all I can find here and on the Anglers Rsrc site.I just can't seem to get a layout that I am happy with and not sure why. Have tried the x27 method as well as used the GPS software.Could you go from a size 10 down to a 6 at the choke? Any advice be great.

The NGC usually has a four guide reduction train, which is unlike the KR concept which has three. Also the choke is further out than the KR. For the reduction guides use a 30Y or 25Y stripper followed by 16Y, 10Y, and 8YL. You can then go directly to your size 6L guide runners. Get your stripper and choke guide positions and progressively place your other three reduction guides between them, and then progressively place the rest of your runners between the choke and tip top. Static test it and then test cast. You should be good to go.

Hi Norm,
If NGC often has a four guide reduction train that explains my trouble.I was trying to get it done in 3. A layout of 20,12,8 may work but the 20 was a little short. The 25 is a good height for the stripper so 25,16,10,8 would seem the go.Cheers.

Norm, With the size 8 did you mean a 8Y or a 8L. I can not see a 8YL on the Fuji lists.Maybe you meant Y or L depending on how things look?

With that light braid about anything will work, in my opinion. I once did a 2 guide reduction to size 6 fly guide runners (25 - 10 or 12, then the runners) with Alps Y guides. My son has used it for about 4 years with a Shimano 4000 with braid, about 15 pounds, I believe, and it casts fine.

Thanks Norm, I was looking at the Fuji height comparison chart and it dose not have the 8L on it.Maybe the chart is old? Anyway have a 8L on order.Yes Michael I you are probably right about nearly anything working with such light braid.To my eyes it just looked a little funny going from 10 down to a 6 but It would have worked .

Scott, those of us used to using KLH are used to seeing 20-10-5.5 and it looks normal to us. Not to worry about bigger steps than what used to be considered normal.
