Guides for rebuild

I''m rebuilding an old St. Croix 11 foor surf rod for a friend. The rod has an old but effective metal ferrule. In all my tape up casting tests, it works best when the 40mm guide is mounted on the ferrule. Is there any reason I can't mount the base guide on the ferrule?

The bottom line, you got to move it , so move it up an down the rod then test cast it, see what works best for you ,

Although not experiencing the need yet, I have wondered about precisely what Mark H. is inquiring. With two initial different views from respected, veteran rod builders, allow me to stir-the-pot to learn what’s up for dinner. Anxious to learn from others as well on the subject.
