I would like to build a rod as a surprise gift for a friend of mine but have never built any heavy saltwater rods so I need some recommendations for a complete build. My rod building experience is in 6 and lighter weight fly rods and smaller spinning rods. My friend fishes for mahi-mahi off the east coast of Florida by trolling and throwing lures. I believe he uses a spinning reel. I tried to ask as many questions as I could without spoiling the surprise. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks! Re: Saltwater Rod

Christopher,
Give the nice folks at Mud Hole a call. They will be able to fix you up with everything that you need. Good luck Re: Saltwater Rod

Mud Hole reps are a good source of information, but one rod for both trolling AND casting for dorado may result in a compromise which does neither particularly well. Re: Saltwater Rod

You’re kind of asking for two different rods with trolling and throwing… but from out RainShadow lineup we’d go with the RX6/E-Glass RCKJB700-325 - it'll work great for trolling and you can throw with it.
