I first take 4 or 5 turns of elastic thread around blank and guide foot, pull it tight, make a two-turn double-overhand knot and pull on both ends of the thread, drawing the double-overhand knot tight over the guide foot and removing elasticity from the thread. At this point I can release both thread ends and the tension of the elastic double overhand keeps the wraps from loosening even one little bit. Then I tie a second overhand knot in the thread ends and tighten it down on top of the first overhand knot, producing a square knot. I can perform this operation in less than 30 seconds, time after time, without complications or failure, and so can you. Your guide will be held firmly in place but there will be enough elasticity left so you can adjust its location. The elastic thread band will be narrow enough so you can apply windings more than half-way up the guide foot. Then just touch the elastic thread with a razor and it jumps off the blank, leaving no residue on the blank. Try it. You'll like it.

wrap them from the tip down. put down a wrap or 3 to start and act like a block and then use the next wrap down to hold the guide in place

if you use Elastic thread ?? it could / will leave FUZZES around when you cut it off , it did for me when I use it , [ still do use it some times] I just dampen it some before i cut , [ water ]

Just used micros for first time on the weekend and used size 14 rubber bands.Cut in half then wrapped around 3 times and tie a overhand knot.Help to put a bit of spit on the band when timing the knot. Also tie some light mono or string to the guide eye when doing this because if it flicks off before it's tied they are very hard to find. Found out the hard way. I am a newbie but found this worked well.
