Broken tip :(

Coworker broke about 1.25” off the tip of my RainShadow immortal blank, 7’6” ML, and I was wondering how much would that affect the rod action and sensitivity. The good news is that I’m still able to use the same tip top which means it broked at a leveled taper part of the rod? Not sure what that means exactly as far as action goes.

Should I just keep it or send it in for a new blank? Though I’m not sure how RainShadow’s warranty is...

Thanks!

Warranties typically cover defects, not accidents or abuse.

Your rod's action will be a bit slower. Sensitivity may be increased if you can us the same tiptop (stiffness to weight ratio will be increased). But you can easily find out for yourself by hot melting the tiptop on and going fishing. You'll know soon enough if it's something you can live with, or not.

Sid

Reinstall the tip, forget the rod was broken and go fishing, after a few trips you will never know you had an issue.

I broke off a tip (3.0 inches), I removed the last guide and installed a new tip, the rod performs fine and is still my go to rod.

I guess the question is how much variation in performance a fisherman can tolerate before the rod is unacceptable.

As Tom said do it try it and decide.

Have fun

John

Sid,
On that blank with that length and action, you will notice the difference, but it will still be a wonderful rod.

However, if it was a 6 foot blank in an extra fast action, you would likely have a great acting pool cue.

Good luck

Thanks for replies. I think I’ll just lie the tip and leave it. Thanks!
