Just wondering if anyone knows how these are applied? The thread if any is clear with a band of silver in the middle. I know that Hitena has a silk aaaa thread that is clear when epoxy is applied. Just wondering if St Croix might do it differently.

I don't know the rod, but doubt if the thread is clear, most likely the same color as the blank with no CP. You can check with St Croix.

You can see the guide foot in the epoxy, so it either has no thread just epoxy or clear thread

If your going with a no thread wrap you'll want to use Permagloss. Better adhesion, more durable.

Size "A" ,white silk thread without CP. Just wrap with white silk and epoxy.

One wrap thread ?? use silk an color the thread , with some sharp'e of the color you want . or paint it lots of way's to do it, this forum under Library has a way of doing it , I think

The Avid Inshore series from day 1 have had transparent wraps that do allow you to see the whole guide foot , they redesigned them a few years back and it sounds like they continued doing that . The members above know how to accomplish that if you plan to build your own in the future.

The thread does not have to be clear for the guide foot to show, as epoxy without CP make the thread very transparent. If you doubt it contact St. Croix, they will tell you what they use.

I am going to call them, if not I am going to order some of that A silk thread from anglersworkshop.

pro wrap silver shiner is the color....

St. Croix uses Flex Coat on all their rods.

Use untreated nylon thread that matches the blank.

I called them today and Andrew is correct. Silver Shiner is the color in size D.

Silk? lol. Save your money and time. John, when you are here I'll show you the rods I built for myself with Silk - over teh course of a couple of years the silk thread broke and teh guide came out of teh wrapping. No manufacturer uses silk anyway, not sure why people gave you teh wrong info to your specific question, but that's what you get when you ask random people on the internet

Hey Billy, I will just hold down the silk thread with masking tape! I have notice on a few high end rods, st croix, g loomis, there using a non cp nylon thread. The st croix I am working on now looks clear, that is why I asked the question. I will definitely try some non cp threads and see the results.

Dennis - it happened with 2 different manufacturers of silk, 2 different colors. Maybe Silk is allergic to Titanium, the guides were TLDBSG 6 (4 guides) and a TLNSG 12 on a rod I used 3 times. It might not happen to everyone, but I'll believe what I have experienced with my own eyes on my own rods much more than somoene telling me it doesn't happen.

John, next gathering ask me to show you some of the stuff you can do with Nylon. I rather do that than spend 2 hours talking about Dec Wraps again.

Billy, About 75% of my thread work is related to repairs , and when I sew on a guide I don't want that rod coming back for the same problem. I may be a little more heavy handed with the epoxy then you would with your personal rods. I can see you not wanting foot balls around your guide feet. But they match the factory rods I get for repairs. Fly rods included!
