Just checking in to see if there is any input into how these two types of spiral wraps compare in casting distance? Any input appreciated unless it’s “your and idiot” in which case I could have just asked my wife Re: Bumper vs revolver casting distance

Mock each one up and try them. I doubt you'll find much practical difference between them.

Mike,
Wrap three identical blanks in a bumper wrap, a revolver wrap and a conventional guide setup. Then, take a 1 oz bullet weight and 20 lb braided line and compare the casting of each rod using the same reel and line and casting weight and then tell us which one works the best for you. Remember, a rod is more than just casting. It is setting the hook fighting the fish and landing the fish. Let us all know what you prefer after fishing with all three rods for a total of a year each in three years. Good luck Re: Bumper vs revolver casting distance

I have done the O'Quinn and bumper. Probably just do bumper from now on, simple and effective. Re: Bumper vs revolver casting distance

I did a revolver style rod for a friend at work a 12-25 ugly stick blank I had laying around. He showed me a picture of him fishing with it all proud of himself. He put a spinning reel on it I am still laughing Re: Bumper vs revolver casting distance

I have wrapped a decent amount of rods with the bumper method, and each time I have tested them side by side with the same blank wrapped conventionally I would state that they seem to cast just as far if not a bit farther than a conventionally wrapped rod. I have not tried the revolver method due to the success I’ve had with the much simpler bumper method. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
