I have restored 3 split bamboo fly rods that belonged to my father. Fun but sometimes tedious. A friend has asked me to restore a similar bamboo rod. As I am new at restoring these rods, I have no idea what to charge. I did not need any new components. So all of my work involved stripping the varnish and wraps, cleaning up the handle and other parts, reinstalling the guides and new finish coats. Any suggestions would be appreciated . Thanks, Dick Re: Restoring Bamboo Fly Rod

Figure out how many hours you have in the job and charge a rate you and your customer can live with. There is no standard. I charge $40.00 an hour. Re: Restoring Bamboo Fly Rod

Refurbishing bamboo rods has been one of the most time consuming rod repairs I have ever done, but I love it! Extremely satisfying when the repairs are done, looks like a brand new rod but better. One thing, make sure to measure where the original intermediate wraps were so the spacing will look appropriate. Have fun. Ray Zarychta Glastonbury, CT Re: Restoring Bamboo Fly Rod

Thanks for the info. One more question re split bamboo rods. Same friend asked me to repair a different rod. Unfortunately it is missing the tip section of the 3 pce rod. He refinished the rod himself and in the process remove all of the labels and decals. Any ideas on where to look fo a replacement tip. I do have pics of the ferrules. Not much to go on. Help please!!! Re: Restoring Bamboo Fly Rod

Anglers Roost has the blanks, doubt anyone will sell you just a tip. Removing all the information from the rod is a big mistake! Re: Restoring Bamboo Fly Rod

Ive restored bamboo rods for over 25 years.
On most jobs I charge a flat fee. Things like rods with a ton of intermediate wraps cost more and many were charged per wrap I’m actually in the process of downsizing my shop. I may have a tip section kicking around. I need to know the lenght and ferrule diameter. Re: Restoring Bamboo Fly Rod

Thanks for responding. The missing tip section is 36-1/2" and the ferrule inside dimension is 7/32". If you have one let me know the cost. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
