On a cork handle that has the regular light colored cork and the dark rubberized butcap and inlays do you coat everything or just the light colored cork?
Thanks,Gary Re: Cork Sealer

I like the cork only.
I leave the rubberized cork un-coated. Just my preference. It gets dark. Herb Re: Cork Sealer

Like Herb, just the light cork. Favorite product is Birchwood- Casey Tru Oil. Ray Zarychta Glastonbury, CT Re: Cork Sealer

Gary
A past post I asked about tung oil to seal the cork and received many pros, cons and suggestions which were well received. I said I would try the tung oil and report back. I tried it on burl cork and I like the results. It turned the cork darker and has a matte finish due to the number of oats I applied. I would recommend trying it. To answer your question you can coat all the cork. Good luck John Re: Cork Sealer

Thanks, John. I remember that string of posts. I sometimes use Tru Oil on burl as it gives more contrast, brings out the "grain." Yes the rubberized gets darker, part of the increased contrast that I like. I use just one coat. Re: Cork Sealer

Some products, such as Tru-Oil will darken the cork. Others, like U-40 Cork Seal, don't really affect the shade or coloration. The ones that slightly darken the cork tend to bring out the "figure" in the exotics.

Apologies for these very basic questions:
1. What does cork sealer do? Does it add to the durability and if so how? 2. And does cork sealer wear out so that they have to be reapplied regularly? Thanks! Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 09/18/2018 04:31AM by Mo Yang. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
