MHX or Quickline 9' 4wt

Looking for a 9' 4wt blank. Budget is about the cost of a MHX 4pc, maybe. little more if required. Ideally I would like fast recovery, low swing weight, a stable light tip that hasn't got a mind of its own when the rod is stopped, with some decent power in the butt section. Finished rod will be used for light Stillwater, and general river duties for trout and grayling here in the UK. Dries, nymphs, small streamers etc.

Being in the UK these blanks are unknown to me. Would they suit my requirements? Is there much difference between them? From what I can gather the QL has slightly higher ERN numbers. Any other banks in the sub $150 range that would be better?

Regards
Dan

you might want to look at the traditions blanks this one PBT2F904 is in you weight range and easy on the budget
Have built several for customers doing trout here but they all wanted 6-8 wt rods as the trout are upwards of 3-10 lb from the great lakes. good luck on the build

Both the 9" 4wt and 8'6" 4wt in the MHX Fly line are sweet spots. I feel the 8'6" is faster with about the same butt power but I have handed that 9' 4wt to all skill levels and they have thrown light streamers and nymphs and loved it. Personally I like the Cortland DT peach on it but handles the Rio Gold well too.

If looking for traditional action Quickline is not the rod. Not familiar wtih any MHX fly rods. If liking a faster rod, QL is a beautiful, light, very nice rod. All the fly rods I've checked for CCS run at the top of the "range" for power. i. e. Quickline 6 wt measures almost 7. Rainshadow 8 measures almost 9. Might want to try one line wt up on our blanks. The price for Quicklines here varies a lot, so shop around if that is your choice.

Just thought i would throw a 9 ' 4 weight blank from Rodgeeks into the mix . It's made out of the same material as St. Croixs SC IV material the only difference is the price .

The Pac Bay Quickline 4 wt. is a nice stick, I fish mine with an 4wt. Air Flow Dri Xceed line. It's my high lakes rod.

Thank you for all the suggestions. I'm leaning strongly towards the QL. Cant find many comments that put me off it and the price is a huge plus. Also there's options for me to buy from some Euro shops, which should also save some shipping/import duties.

Cheers
Dan
