My 18 rpm rod dryer motor just quit. My question is. I have a 30 rpm rod dryer that I use to apply epoxy. Can I leave the rod on it turning until the epoxy dries or will it mess the epoxy up with it spinning at that rpm? Re: Rod dryer rpm

If it isn't slinging the epoxy off it will likely be be just fine. Re: Rod dryer rpm

Douglass,
Make yourself a new rod dryer. Use a 50 rpm DC motor with a 12 or 24 volt motor on it. Then, use a 12 or 24 volt power supply to drive the motor. Finally put a variable speed controller for the motor in between the power supply and the motor. That way, you can have the best of all worlds. You can apply finish at speeds up to the maximum speed of the motor, but slow it down to a nice 5-6 rpm for its final drying. I personally do not like to do the final drying of the rods at a speed faster than 10 rpm to avoid slinging finish as well as to avoid forming foot balls with the finish at the guide feet due to to excess rpm. Do a bit of searching and you will find that all of these materials are readily available at very reasonable prices. Good luck Re: Rod dryer rpm
