Blem Blanks

I used to purchase inexpensive blemished hollow graphite blanks from a shop in Milwaukee ,WI. They were a 2 pc 9' flyrod blank. I believe they were approximately 5-7 wt. I used the tip end (54") to make inline ice rods with Stillfish Reels. The shop where I bought them for a number of years can no longer get them. Any help/suggestions???

Try buying ice rod blanks. Or consider sourcing them from current manufacturers. Realize, that if you source them from current manufacturers, you won't have a warranty, which is probably no different than before. You may need to meet minimum requirements, such as 50 pieces at a time. That would likely be the same as having a manufacturer do a special run of just extra tip sections for you.
You could also surf the big @#$%& sites.

Ken,
Just as a way of doing business, more and more manufacturers simply scrap out a blank that has a blem.

As much as anything they do not want a blank out there that may be mistaken as one of their official factory release products and folks see a defect in the product.

So, if the blem is destroyed, no bad product in the common market.

Good luck

Chuck:

Thanks for the reply. I have never found a 54" ice rod blank. All I have found were shorter. I was more looking doer a specific source. Possibly I'm searching for a unicorn but I'll keep searching. Thanks again.

Roger:

Thanks for the reply. I am aware of the anomalies associated with blem blanks and the stigma related to a manufacturer. I was more looking to see if anyone had a specific source. Mine dried up but I'm thinking they are still out there somewhere....Thanks again.

Cast offs, blem's and salvage have long been the fodder of innovation practice material of new concept rod designs for me and many of my students for a long time. Its a very attractive way to bring in new interests to rod building.

There is place in Florida that handles seconds but its strictly a cash and carry operation, they don't pick, pull or ship any blanks. Actually a friend of a friend of mine found some very low demand blanks I was in desperate want of and they had them. Brand new thirty year old stock just doesn't turn up that often. Having cleared out a couple supply houses (that didn't take much) I made 1000 mile week end round trip for left over inventory. The place is, Bridgemaster fishing products.
