I'm brand new to rod wrapping and going to be building my first rod shortly. I picked an 8'6" jawbone blank. I plan on using Aftco roller guides and aluminum reel seat. I will be putting either an Avet 50w or 80w with 100lb mono on it, using for shark fishing.

How many and what size rollers are needed?

Recommendations on reel seats?

Best place to get any or all material? Expoxy, fore grip, gimble...ect...

Any tips would be appreciated.

Even though you are planning to use the rod from shore, you are looking for a version of a stand-up rod. A very good article on them is in last month's rodbuilder magazine. Granted, stand-up rods are usually short but frequently use a harness in lieu of a fighting chair. It appears you intend doing the shark raslin from shore using the same technique. I think the article will give you a lot of insight and a good roadmap to your build. I learned a lot from the article.

As long as you won't be casting more than ten feet I recommend you get a copy of Mudhole's booklet "Building a Custom Offshore Fishing Rod". I have found Mudhole's rod building booklets quite helpful and their products and service highly satisfactory.

I'll have to check that magazine out. I'll be using it as a stand up rod with a lap belt.

I will not be casting with this rod. Simply leaving the rod on shore while taking the bait and line out 400yds with a kayak.

Quite a few anglers on Florida's northeast coast use your fishing method with some spectacular results, especially with sharks. I'm sure Mudhole is acquainted with some of these specialists and might even be able to put you in touch with them.

There will always be someone on shore by the rod to set the drag once the bait is dropped. Don't think it would be smart to try doing it by myself lol.

LOL , You do what all great anglers do which is jump out of the Yak and get a hold of the line with your hands or teeth and fight the behemoth under water . I'm sure Matt has done this many times.
