Building my first off shore rig on a 7'3" 20-50lb class rod. I'm putting on a 6500 Penn Slammer III, spooled w/30lb braid. I'm going with the virtus guides, and was wondering if anyone could recommend what size stripper guide/reduction train to go with. I'm thinking that size reel warrants a 40 as the stripper, but with the guides being expensive, I wanted to ask before dropping the cash and making a mistake.

This blank, being a lite action off shore will not require heavy duty guides. Even with the slammer, you can start with a #30 stripper reduction down to a 20 then a 10 and #7 running guides. This will work with braid up to 50lb. test. I suggest the Fuji CCKWAG guides. and the CCLGAT tip with a #8 ring. All corrosion control for the price of standard stainless. Have fun. E.P.
