Virtus lite or heavy or Typhoons for 50-80 pound tuna popping rod

I am interested in trying titanium AT Virtus or Typhoon guides for a 50-80 pound YFT popping rod. I have used Fuji MNSGs in the past with no issues but want to use titanium on the next build. I am thinking it would be best to use the heavies to avoid any frame flex. Reels will be Stella 10,000, Stella 20,000, or Van Staal VM 275 if getting pounded with spray. Rod will be United Composites 7'6'' Predator or 8' United Composite Wahoo. Line 65-80 pound spectra. Short 60-80 pound leader. Fishing in Golf of Mexico from charters or party boats.

I stopped using Titanium Typhoons on my INshore SW rods, they do not hold up at all. For fishing they are fine, but transporting the rods they bend like a paper clip, and break. It was the most replaced guide I ever used on my customer rods. When I used the Titanium V Lites....I would use the Virtus Heavy running guides because there wasn't any noticeably weight difference, but there was a major increase in durability. SAme thing as the Typhoons, the smaller VLites (size 8's) were getting damaged on my customer rods.

Hello Scott.

YFT means tough so I would use the Virtus Heavies, Typhoons are for light gear & more gentle handling.

Virtus Heavy for sure. All of my personal Offshore rods and cobia rods have them.
