Grip type for 9' 4wt

hey everyone im moving to the next project. Im wondering whats everyones opinion on what type grip to put on the rod? 3pc 4wt 9'

im pondering a short 6.5" fullwells or a 6.5" cigar that can be inletted
for an uplock hood.

I've discovered that a reverse half wells and a ultra fine are not very comfortable for myself. I have a brand new St. Croix Ultra legend 6wt that the grip is much too narrow for me and hence I dont use it .

any insight will be welcome!

PS;I agree that something needs to be done to consitantly grade and obtain good cork . I saw some dept store rods last night that had nicer cork than the top shelf preformed grips Ive purchased in the past

"Happy wrapping" John

I would use whatever type grip fit my hand the best and not worry too much about what type is 'supposed' to be used on such a rod. I saw somewhere where a guy rolled some playdough into a round shape and then griped it and squeezed it until it fit his hand like he wanted it. He then used it as a model for the grip he would shape out of cork. Sounds reasonable to me.

go with what you like, I built my self a 4 wt with a reverse half wells, people look at it kind of funny on such a light rod, but it fits my hand better, and I like the flared upper end, it seems to give me some leverage from my thumb for long casts.

The site that describes the way to make your personalized grip is @#$%&. Check in the rod building section under grip or cork. It is very well written and should help you.
